On Saturday, March 1, 2025, the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo (FARDC) declared that they do not recognize the repatriation of 14 individuals presented as FDLR fighters, calling it a “staged act” orchestrated by M23 in collaboration with Rwanda.

In an official statement, FARDC spokesperson Major General Sylvain Ekenge stated that this operation aimed to “discredit” the Congolese military and SADC forces while justifying ongoing military actions in eastern DRC.

“When you look closely, you find inconsistencies. Among those claimed to be FDLR fighters captured in Congo is Patrick Ishimwe, who was previously presented in Kigali’s media on January 22, 2025,” said Major General Ekenge.

FARDC alleges that some of the individuals repatriated may have been detainees in Rwanda, dressed in newly issued Congolese military uniforms to be falsely presented as captured combatants.

Furthermore, FARDC accused M23 of being behind the killing of wounded Congolese soldiers in Katindo military hospital in Goma, describing the act as a war crime that requires thorough investigation.

The Congolese government has called on the international community to conduct an independent inquiry into the matter and reaffirmed its commitment to defending the country’s sovereignty and protecting its citizens.

Isn’t this just an attempt to cover up the fact that their actions have been exposed?

There are many circulating videos showing some of the FDLR fighters handed over to Rwanda on 01/03 being trained by the Congolese military.
