M23 and AFC rebels have withdrawn from the villages of Kasugho, Katoyo, and Kagheri, located 45 kilometers west of Lubero center, in the Lubero territory of North Kivu province.

According to various sources, the withdrawal followed clashes between the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo (FARDC), supported by Wazalendo fighters.

During their retreat, reports indicate incidents of looting targeting local populations, though the full extent of these actions remains unclear (Reported by FRDC).

Military analysts who assess conflicts do not confirm that the FARDC has only now gained the strength to fight M23/AFC, as they had previously struggled against them. However, reports suggest the presence of additional, unidentified fighters alongside the army.

Meanwhile, FARDC leadership has reiterated its commitment to pursuing these armed groups and reclaiming occupied areas. The army has also called on the population to support ongoing efforts aimed at restoring security in eastern DRC.
