As the security situation continues to deteriorate in North and South Kivu, the Civil Society Synergy in Djugu Territory, Haut-Uele Province, is urging local youth to enlist massively in the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo (FARDC) to safeguard national sovereignty and counter ongoing threats in the eastern region.
In a press interview on Thursday, Pierre Patile, coordinator of the New Civil Society in Dungu Territory, emphasized the critical role of youth in national defense. “Following the call of President Félix Antoine Tshisekedi, we urge young people to join the FARDC in large numbers to prevent further instability in the region,” he stated.
The Congolese government has continued to encourage youth aged 18 and above to enlist in the military to respond to the security challenges caused by armed conflicts. Since the launch of this mobilization campaign in Haut-Uele, over 1,000 young people have already responded to the call.
Meanwhile, reports suggest that President Félix Antoine Tshisekedi has been urged by the United States to engage in dialogue with M23 rebels, an initiative that some believe is merely a delaying tactic rather than a genuine peace effort. More details on this development will follow soon.
